When rich Jack Talbot falls in love with not-rich Rose Kirby, he doesn't marry her, fearing his mother's disapproval. Rose later marries Clyde Bainbridge, a rotter who knows that under the terms of a secret contract, Rose will inherit the Talbot iron-works.
