In 2020, young Thais protested outside ther German embassy in Bangkok over the activities of King Rama X in Germany. In the same year in Chiang Mai, students demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan--cha. In 2022, Weerasethakul filmed the "Rio Madre de Dios", while travelling in Peru. These three situations prompted the artist to examine the philosophy of Krishnamurti, who posited that reaction to things belongs to the past and cannot help humankind advance, while action is performed in full consciousness, without making a choice nor being influenced.
